What is the First Responder program?... It is the division of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department that provides emergency medical care support . We are registered with the State of Texas as a First Responder Organization (FRO). Members of the department who are certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Emergency Care Attendants (ECA) are issued medical "jump kits" , portable two-way radios and in some cases AED's, that are carried in their personal vehicles. When dispatched, these personnel will usually respond in their own vehicles to the scene of a medical emergency to provide initial basic life support care "BLS" until the arrival of EMS paramedics. Most of our fire trucks are equipped with medical "jump kits" and backboards as well. Our Rescue truck carry an AED and specialty equipment.
