We will be a resource for public safety education. We will be "ALWAYS READY" to respond!

About Us

The Smithville Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1895. We are a chartered Fire Department with the State of Texas and have an IRS designation as a  501(c) 4 non-profit corporation.  We are "All Volunteer"  and on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide Fire, Rescue and Medical First Response services to approximately 158 square miles of Eastern & Southeastern Bastrop County and Western Fayette County. We are based in the City of Smithville, Texas and operate out of two stations. Our current volunteer staffing consists of 42 active firefighters and 6 Reserve firefighters. Our fleet consists of 3 Class A engines, 3 brush trucks, 3 tankers, 1 rescue, 1 utility squad and 2 boats.

Our stations are usually unstaffed. Firefighters are alerted by radio pager, report to the stations, board apparatus and respond. SFD Medic personnel are equipped with Basic Life Support gear and usually respond to medical emergencies in their personal vehicles.

We are one of three departments in Bastrop County not funded by an ESD (Emergency Services District). We are funded by Donations, the City of Smithville and Bastrop County. We receive no funding from Fayette County for fire and rescue services.
